Congregation Votes to Approve Office Project

UPDATE: Congregation votes YES to approve a capital campaign for the office remodel and HVAC upgrades. The final count was 88 yes, 31 no.

The Capital Campaign Team and Building Committee will now begin steps to finalize plans and move forward. Church leadership will keep the congregation well informed throughout this process.

To view the most recent plans and a recap of the work that has been done to this point, please go to . You’ll see the previous plans that were put together in 2019, and the newly revised plans that we will ask you to consider on Nov. 6.

In short, the new designs show new offices to be built in the unused square footage within the old sanctuary space, plus a storage area to be added above the offices. Additionally, there is significant need to update the HVAC system within the entire church. Therefore, the capital campaign to address the office remodel would be expanded to bring the Heating and A/C system up-to-date throughout the entire facility.

Budget figures are very fluid as building and material costs change daily. However, we are estimating costs to reach slightly over $2 million. This is a significant expense and would be a big challenge. However, we would be working with a fundraising consultant company, GSB, with expert guidance from professionals who have a proven track record working with churches. A capital campaign does more than raise money. It gives churches an opportunity for spiritual growth, connectedness, faithful reflection, and more.

The language used on the ballot as approved by Congregational Council will be as follows:  “A vote of ‘YES’ means you approve of the office remodel conceptual plans and a full update of our HVAC system as presented in fall 2022, you approve of beginning a capital campaign fundraising effort, and you approve of hiring GSB as a consultant to guide our capital campaign strategy.”

Please prayerfully consider this project and what it means for the future of First Lutheran. We ask God to help and guide us through this important decision. If you have any questions about this project, please reach out to one or more of the contacts below:

Because of God’s grace to me, I have laid the foundation like an expert builder. Now others are building on it. But whoever is building on this foundation must be very careful. For no one can lay any foundation other than the one we already have—Jesus Christ. | 1 Corinthians 3:11
