First Lutheran Returns to Remote-Only Worship Through Nov. 30

As the COVID-19 virus continues to spread widely through our community, the church leadership team has met and made some decisions that will impact worship and activities within the church facility.

Changes to Worship & Activities

Worship services will go remote-only for the next two Sundays including November 22nd and 29th. Each of those Sundays will have one service at 8:45am that will be broadcast on the radio, streamed online at and on our Facebook page. It will not be open for in-person attendance. The council will meet again on November 30th to discuss December worship and activities. We will not be making any decisions regarding December until then.

In addition to remote worship, all activities scheduled in the church through November 30th will be canceled, postponed, or moved online. This includes the following:

  • Congregational meeting scheduled for Sunday, November 22nd is POSTPONED to a later date.
  • Christian education including Sunday School, small groups, and Bible studies will not meet.
  • All musical groups will not rehearse.
  • The FLY Auction will move entirely online. The deadline will be extended to December 20th. More information and instructions will be coming soon.
Additional Information

The First Lutheran Preschool will remain open and continue to follow Kearney Public Schools guidelines and scheduling.

The church staff will primarily be working from home or have rotating hours in the office. The office will be open with reduced hours from 8:00 am to Noon, Monday through Friday for drop-offs or in-person business (if absolutely necessary).

These decisions have been made prayerfully in the best interest of the congregation and community. Not only has there been a rapid increase of positive cases in the community, we’ve been informed of a number of positive cases within our own congregation. Additionally, local health officials and medical professionals have been advising fast and drastic changes in order to control the spread.

Thank you for your understanding during these challenging times. We continue to pray for your health, safety, and wellbeing. Keep an eye on the church website, email, and social media for future developments.
