First Lutheran Church is planning a renovation project of office and meeting space. After a series of congregational listening sessions in the fall of 2019, and a subsequent congregational vote in November of 2019, it was decided to begin the planning process. A building committee and capital campaign committee were established. Wilkins Architecture firm was hired. Below is a look at the PRELIMINARY drawings and renderings. Please know that these are NOT FINALIZED. The leadership teams are continuing to work on these plans as well as cost estimates.
Once plans are more finalized, a congregational meeting, or series of meetings, will be scheduled to review the plans and answer questions related to the project. Another congregational vote will be required to approve spending and officially accept the plans before we move into the construction phase.
The church leadership feels it’s important to show the congregation the work that’s been done to this point. Due to COVID-19, we have decided to hold off a bit on next steps such as scheduling congregational votes or continuing with efforts of the capital campaign committee. We are excited to show the renderings!
Project Cost Estimates
Cost estimates are being worked on and are also not finalized at the moment. More information will be shared with the congregation when available.
A renovated coffee area would offer more space for seating and socializing with a “coffee shop” feel. This area would include two new bathrooms, replacing the old east bathrooms which are not handicap accessible.
The east side of the church would become more like a main entrance with access to the office area. This structure would offer cover for vehicles dropping off passengers for preschool, youth activities, meetings, and more.
The original goal of this project was to create more office space. This image shows a birds-eye view of new offices built in the existing North Fellowship Hall. It includes 5 new offices lining the east wall with windows allowing natural light. Two additional offices, a private meeting space, a printing room, a break area and new staff bathroom complete the space.
Having a welcoming feeling as people enter the building is important. This shows a new reception area that would replace the north kitchen. As people enter the building, they would check-in here and have a comfortable place to wait for pastors, staff or others.
This image above and the one to the right show a more complete picture of the project. In addition to new offices, reception area, coffee area renovations, and new bathrooms, we will convert the existing choir room and quilting room into a larger meeting space (where the round tables are shown). This new multi-purpose area can be used for meetings, classroom space, activities, special events, and more. A small residential-style kitchen space would be included. The old sanctuary would then be renovated into a new choir room. The existing office area would be converted into nursery space and new quilting space.
